These Asian Sloppy Joe and Slaw Sliders take tradition on a spin across the Pacific and introduce Asian flavors, like sriracha sauce, ginger and sweet and tangy hoisin sauce, to browned turkey and pork. Serve it on a bun with coleslaw dressed in an Asian dressing and top it off with a crunchy dill pickle.

I was first introduced to hoisin sauce during my inaugural trip to NYC when I was in high school. My sister's hippy cool roommate took us to her favorite mildly dicey Chinese restaurant and ordered Moo Sho Pork -- shredded pork and cabbage rolled up with hoisin sauce in a thin rice pancake. It was nothing short of life-altering.
I suppose that hoisin sauce isn't too far off the mark from the U.S. staple -- good old BBQ sauce -- with its rich savory flavor. Hoisin dials it up imparting umami with fermented soybeans that produce a simultaneous salty, sweet and tangy experience.
Kids and adults devour these. A nice alternative to using a bun is to turn it into a lettuce wrap. Wrap the Joe-mix in a butter lettuce leave, and top it with scallions, peanuts and a squeeze of lime.
In the home I grew up in, there was a real good chance that Sloppy Joe's would be on the menu as a perennial family favorite on a Friday night. (Served with tater tots -- or mac and cheese out of a box -- those ageless staples would work equally well with my Asian Sloppy Joe and Slaw Sliders!)

Substitutions
- Ground Chicken/Ground Beef -- substitute the turkey with ground chicken or ground beef. Best to leave the pork in the recipe for the flavor it imparts
- Vegetarian - replace the turkey and pork with vegen/vegetarian/plant-based beef crumble alternatives.
- Bun/Gluten Free - make it a lettuce wrap! Place a scoop of the Asian sloppy Joe mix in the middle of a Bibb or butter lettuce leave. Top with sliced scallions and chopped peanuts and serve with a wedge of lime. (Make sure to check the label on the hoisin sauce to ensure it is gluten free.)
- Lettuce -- while the coleslaw is a great addition, it's not an absolute necessity. Substitute it with lettuce, spinach or arugula
